Portrait of Veronica Richer in a black off-the-shoulder gown

Praised by The Boston Musical Intelligencer for her “fearless high register and good projection and enunciation,” American soprano Veronica Richer is gaining recognition as a compelling interpreter of full lyric and oratorio repertoire. A fourth-year Resident Artist at Philadelphia’s prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts, she is distinguished by the richness and warmth of her voice, dramatic authority, and commanding stage presence.

Richer’s 2026–27 season marks an important expansion of her repertoire with upcoming role debuts as Leonora in Verdi’s Il trovatore and Giorgetta in Puccini’s Il tabarro at the Academy of Vocal Arts. She will also return to the role of Nella in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. Additional season engagements include the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition and her Academy of Vocal Arts Farewell Recital in May 2027.

During the 2025–26 season, Richer made significant role debuts as Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff under the baton of Steven White and Countess Madeleine in Richard Strauss’s Capriccio. Her previous appearances at the Academy of Vocal Arts include Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust, Berta in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, and the Female Chorus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia. She also covered the title role in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena.

In the summer of 2026, Richer made her company debut with Opera North as Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Friend 1 of Augusta in Douglas Moore’s The Ballad of Baby Doe. At the Bay View Music Festival, she appeared in the title role of Puccini’s Suor Angelica and as Nella in Gianni Schicchi.

Internationally, Richer has appeared at the Opera Festival of Morelia in Mexico as Angelica in Suor Angelica and the Countess in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. She has also explored both the title role and the Foreign Princess in Dvořák’s Rusalka with the Luke Housner Workshop and performed Fiordiligi in Mannes Opera’s virtual production of Così fan tutte.

Equally at home on the concert stage, Richer made her debut with Symphony in C as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 under the direction of Noam Aviel. Her concert and oratorio repertoire includes the soprano solos in Handel’s Messiah, Dvořák’s “Quis est homo,” Mendelssohn’s “Hear Ye, Israel,” and Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb. She has appeared with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Camerata New York, and the Boston Conservatory Orchestra and made her Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist in 2019.

Richer’s honors include being named a 2025 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition District Winner and an Emerging Artist Finalist in the MIOpera International Vocal Competition. She was also a 2025 semifinalist in both the Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition and the Palm Springs Opera Guild Competition, a semifinalist in the Camerata Bardi International Vocal Competition, and a recipient of a Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Encouragement Award. Earlier in her development, she was recognized as Best Female Studio Artist at Opera in the Ozarks.

Richer is completing her advanced operatic training at the Academy of Vocal Arts, where she has been a Resident Artist since 2023. She holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Mannes School of Music at The New School and earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, magna cum laude, from Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
